Membership Dues by Category

Membership categories exist for members at all stages of their career, as well as for organizations and neuroscience programs. SfN memberships are valid for the duration of the calendar year in which the initial application or renewal was submitted. Memberships expire on December 31. All membership payments are nonrefundable.

Regular Member

Dues: $210 Annually

  • Scientists who have conducted research relating to neuroscience are eligible for Regular membership
  • Regular members are eligible to vote and hold volunteer leader positions on SfN committees

Postdoctoral Member

Dues: $160 Annually

  • Individuals who have obtained their doctoral degree and are currently working in a postdoctoral trainee program in neuroscience are eligible for Postdoctoral membership
  • Individuals are eligible for Postdoctoral membership for a period of up to five years
  • Postdoctoral members can request an extension beyond the five-year limit, but must provide documentation confirming eligibility to membership@sfn.org

Graduate Student Member

Dues: $74 Annually

  • Students enrolled in graduate programs at degree-granting institutions of higher education can apply for Graduate student membership (proof of enrollment is required)
  • Graduate student members may maintain their student membership for up to two years past graduation unless they become eligible for Postdoctoral or Regular membership within that time

Undergraduate Student Member

Dues: $32 Annually

  • Students enrolled in programs at undergraduate degree-granting institutions can apply for Undergraduate student membership (proof of enrollment is required)
  • Undergraduate student members may maintain their undergraduate membership for up to two years past graduation unless they become eligible for a graduate student, postdoctoral, or regular membership during that time

Emeritus Member

Dues: Complimentary

Scientists who have reached emeritus status at their institutions can keep in touch with SfN and share insight about the field with others. Receive access to ALL of SfN's Member Benefits without dues, PLUS complimentary annual meeting registration.

Requirements:

  • Be a current Regular member of SfN
  • Submit your intent to renew with written verification from your institution on your Emeritus status to membership@sfn.org

Affiliate Member

Dues: $210 Annually

  • Individuals interested in SfN's mission who are ineligible for all other membership categories are eligible for Affiliate membership
  • Affiliate members may not submit annual meeting abstracts

Members in Developing Countries

  • Members currently residing in developing countries (as classified by the World Bank) are eligible for reduced membership rates and sponsorship exceptions
  • Applications for membership in these reduced dues categories must include a primary address within the Category I, II or III country
